I’ve been having a think recently, and thats about what really defines us as a “gamer”?

Some people say that you become a gamer even if you play the odd one or two games on PC or mobile, you know like those flash games that some people would lose interest in a few minutes…or gets lodged in your favorite bookmarks and gets used every day like clockwork for months until the next funky flash game comes along. If all this is true then my own mum is a hardcore gamer (when it comes to scrabble on Facebook at least!)

On the flip side some people will tell you that you’re only a gamer if you own and play the most popular console(s) until the early hours of the morning, determined to get to the next rank on Call Of Duty or Gears Of War.

Ok so what category would you fit in? A dabbler? or an obsessive?

But thats not all!…to some people the amount of time you play games isn’t enough, its also which games you play too…and I don’t know about you but all this reminds me of being back at High School 8-9 years ago. What I mean is that some games are classed as being too kiddy or childish, and you get those people that will tell you that you’re not a serious gamer if you play games like Kung Fu Panda or Lost etc…why? because those games are not cool!

Personally I don’t believe the whole ethic that ‘this game’ or ‘that game’ is or isn’t cool, if you enjoy playing a game then don’t let anyone else stop you.

So what do I class as being a serious gamer? Personally its someone who dedicates a large chunk of their time to playing games regardless of whether its a movie game or a ‘kiddy’ game. I class myself as a serious gamer as thats what takes up 90% of my day, as well as constantly trawling through game related websites for the latest news and trying to keep things on here up to date. Sure I play games like Wall-E and the like (as well as Forza and Call Of Duty) but why not? If I enjoy it I will play it, if not then I wont…simple as!
